Cautions about using essential oils-
Less is more- one drop of essential oils is 100x stronger than the dried plant. Using to much oils at one time can cause your body to have a healing crisis (like a bad detox...not pretty).
Prescription medications- People on prescription medication should avoid using essential oils for 2 hours before and 2 hours after consuming prescription medications. Oils can interfer with the bodys ability to use the prescription medication.
High Blood Pressure- Peppermint oil can increase blood pressure. If you have high blood pressure and want to use peppermint, then it should be lavered with lavender oil, which decreases blood pressure.
Seizure Disorders- If you have a history of seizures then you should avoid basil, fennel and lavender. If you want to try these oils be sure to have someone with you to see how you will react.
Pregnancy- Use caution when using oils while pregnant. Peppermint and clary Sage are a few that cause premature contractions. There are many other oils to use caution with pregnacy and breast feeding.
Children- Oils for children must be diluted. 75% for under 24 months, 50% for under 36 months, and 25% for children under 10. For example for a 75% dilution use 3 drops of carrier oil to 1 drop of essential oil.
Sensitive skin- If you should develop a sensitivity use carrier oil to dilute the oil. (an internal carrier oil can be olive oil, grape seed, coconut oil or even vegetable oil...in an emergency. Jojoba oil is a thicker oil and should only be used externally. Jojoba oil slows down the absorbancy of the oils.
Citrus oils- All citrus oils make you senstive to the sun (photo-sensitive). If you are goiing to be in the sun only apply the oils to areas that will be covered for a minimum of 48 hours.
Oregano Oil- NEVER APPLY NEET TO SKIN!!! It is a very hot oil and can cause 3rd degree burns. Immediately use carrier oil on site if oregano is accidentally gotten onto skin. TIP: Coat your fingers with oil before filling capsules with oregano.
Thyme Oil- Is a warm oil and should be diluted before use.
Animals- Use extreme caution. Use 1 drop oil for every 100 pounds of the animals weight and dilute 10 to 1 with a carrier oil.
Cats liver do not metabloize oils so they can can die of liver failure. Even diffusion can cause problems for cats.
